Chief,...I can get as much or as little color as I desire but I normaly try to do what looks good on a particular gun, in other words I can manipulate the procedure to replicate original colours.
I've been documenting every step for the past 5 years, before that I didn't because my furnace was not reliable enough, so documenting temp was a waste of time, with my new equipment I know exactly what's going on in there at all times, temp is very important as is everything else,mix ratio,crucible packing procedure,water airation and temp and probably the most important of all, the quench.
Here is one that I did a few yers ago to see how much colour I could get,was a scrap frame It still sits on my bench.
