If you had an opportunity to buy an AOC Uggie for $1,500 less than an AYA #2 would you buy the Uggie? Both guns are the same quality (99%) and the same gauge. Also, the gun will be a field gun.

I would look for Spanish gun with some honest field wear to see how the action components wear avoiding guns with soft metal parts and saving money at the same time. Uggie is proly BLE while AyA is SLE so it pretty much comes down to personal preference. Young "Duki" would pick SLE.

An AyA #2 sidelock is a superior gun to an Ugartechea AOC boxlock from Aspen Outfitters. One is a "Grade 6" sidelock, the other is a "Grade 2/3" boxlock.

Actual value on a brand new AOC is around $2000. Actual value on a brand new AyA #2 sidelock is about $4800. MSRPs and used sale prices based on what era they were made introduce some variations of course.

Bottom line, AyA is twice the gun of the Ugartechea in this unequal comparison.

Now if you want to compare AyA #2 to a premium/best grade Ugartechea sidelock, the Uggie would be the superior gun...but you didn't ask for that non-relevant comparison.

True AmarilloMike, but you must temper the AOC prices with reality. I had an Aspen Outfitters best grade Ugartechea SIDELOCK ejector I bought 2nd hand, 98% condition for $2250. I sold it to Cabelas for $2700. It has sat rotting on their shelves for $4000 unsold for months and months.

Aspen is extremely overpriced because the guns go with their shooting school experience. For accurate comparisons, you need to look to a wholesaler that sells similar product.

I think Rookhawk nailed it.

I don't quite understand the McIntosh quote, but the #2 is a nice gun. I own one and used to sell them for less than $3000 new. I don't think the Uggie is a similar gun unless the original poster clarifies his question a bit. Maybe his comparison is to a high grade Uggie sidelock.
