You didn't mention the gauge, but I assume you are talking about a 12 gauge. I have owned and handled E grade 12 gauge guns ranging in weight just over 6 lbs to 8 lbs.. In E grade Lefevers with 30" barrels I have owned guns ranging from 7 lbs to about 8 lbs.. What does the Lefever you are working on weigh? Most of the difference in weight tends to be in the barrels, with smaller variations in weight in the frames and stock. Wall thickness at the muzzle is not a good measure of wall thickness. Can you locate a gunsmith or store that has a wall thickness gauge that allows you to move the barrels for their full length or nearly full length over the gauge so that you determine the minimum wall thickness in the entire barrel length? The thinnest point will likely be well behind of the muzzle. Are yours Damascus or fluid steel barrels? How are the barrels marked on your gun, both on the top of the barrels and underneath on the barrel flats and on and around the lugs? Any letters around the lugs? Other markings or inscriptions?
