Dave B...Chief is correct in his information posted here about your Sauer. It was likly proof tested in January 1954 (154 date code on bbl flates) Your Eckenforde Sauer is very likely a Model 5/5 boxlock shotgun or a model 60, which were JP Sauers basic models of that era. It might also be a very early Royal model, which had a crossbolt, cocking indicators and scalloped receiver. As an aside the most interesting thing about your shotguns S/N (25,449)is what it illustrates. It illustrates that JP Sauers new Eckenforde models appear to have began a new s/n sequence and that the Eckenforde produced model 8's continued with old and already established (pre-WW2) s/n sequence. Model 8's produced in the early 50s will be seen with s/n's in the 39X,XXX range. Jeff Stephens
