Buchseman,
This is good news indeed. I'm looking forward to use the coming "Classic" Brenneke 16/65mm slug load in my classic Drillings and BF/BBFs.

With kind regards,
Jani

Really! Now I can carry slugs with my upland gun, just in case....

Thanks, Brenneke!

Wow! You guys are awesome. What a wealth of knowledge.

Mark - When I read Raimey's post, it wasn't clear to me if Baumgarten was a person on this board or an ammo manufacturer. Thanks for pursuing the issue. It looks like there is, indeed, a demand for the 16g/65mm slugs.

I really appreciate all the help.

Gentlemen,

I have a correction:

The gentleman I was talking to this last Saturday morning from Brenneke Germany was their "Sales Manager" not a marketing rep.

Gentlemen,

I found this related and rather interesting comment on another forum this morning:

"I have a ZH204 (7x57R/12 ga) which I use like a double rifle. Brenneke slugs and 139 gr. handloads shoot to the same point out to 150 yards or so."

The gentleman making the comment is from NC.

I find it a "spot of luck" that the gent has his BRNO "Bockbuchsflinte" (BBF) shooting to the same point out to 150 yards or so but still it goes to show what having a few Brenneke slugs in one's pocket can add to the versatility of a combination gun. Yes, for all practical purposes the NC gentleman has himself a double rifle. I can see many learning more about "regulating" and reloading rifle ammunition once the Brenneke 16ga 65mm slugs have been released and look forward to reading the many posts on the subject.

Regards,

Buchseman

Just a point of interest. Ca. 1970s Brennekes (16ga) were 67.5mm and advertised as useable in 2 1/2 and 2 3/4 " chambers.These were RWS (Nobel)slugs.

I would second Der Ami's comments. I have a pre-War Krieghoff Neptun sidelock drilling in the same caliber combination as the "Wagner" and a Sauer und Sohn Model 26 sidelock drilling in 16/16/8X57IR, neither of which is equipped with a scope. They stay in the gun case while my other drillings, which are equipped with scopes, get hunted with.

I have killed one deer with the Sauer drilling, taken running at short range, but even before I started experiencing difficulty with my right eye, the rear sight was hopeless for shots beyond 50-60 yards.

My Greifelt drillings did not come equipped with scopes, but they did have claw mount bases and I was able to have rings fitted and scopes mounted, which enhances their usefulness enormously.

One more drilling, another Neptun, is in Germany awaiting completion of the import formalities. It is caliber 16/16/8X65RS, and I am particularly looking forward to trying it out in the field.

Xausa,
I expect you will enjoy the 8x65RS. Do you have brass? I would use 7x65R.

Years ago I had a 98 Mauser rechambered to 8mm-'06, which is essentially the same cartridge. I found it an appreciable improvement over the 8X57.

I have a supply of 7X65R cases I plan to use. I have had the opportunity to try it out in Germany, and it seems like a real winner.
