I just obtained a Waffenfabrik Oberndorf aN 7x57 Sporter. I wondered about something? The receiver ring is marked the same, as the early run of SWEDISH MAUSERS made in Germany were. It is all matching with SN 4582. The cocking piece, safety, and bolt handle and shroud look nothing like a Swede. The triggerguard assembly is set up for a set trigger. Commercial...Custom...European[my guess]...American? It has German proofmarks but just what is it? What say you?

RIFLE ARRIVED ADDENDUM: Beautiful rifle, the bore understandably is dark but shined up and is not pitted. I've used Copper cleaner and a TINY bit or Flitz Liquid Polish. The patches are coming out the color of a No. 2 pencil mark. ANY SUGESTIONS FOR A 110 YEAR OLD BARREL for what appears to be heavy lead and powder foulings ?

Alvin,

Your Mauser sporting rifle appears in the sales and inventory records of Von Lengerke & Detmold in New York. Listed as a 7mm with a double set trigger. Rerceived on August 30, 1902. Sold in 1903.

Check with Michael but it looks like it may have been restocked by G&H - checkering pattern, FE tip, PG cap, and buttplate look like G&H.

Compliments of Griffin & Howe, Inc.

It's a very nice early Mauser factory commercial sporter that has been restocked by ??? Most likely an intermediate action that started life as a Type B.

Alvin,

Are there supposed to be pictures linked to your posting above? I would love to see the rifle being described, but at present there appears to only be text.
