Picked up a couple guns recently I thought I'd share with everyone. The first is a silver wire inlaid Belgian 12ga hammer gun to go with my 16 hammer gun. 27.5" (cut) fine crolle damascus choked cyl/cyl, near perfect bores. Weighs 6lbs 5oz. Will make a great skeet gun. Pictures don't do it justice. It's stunning in person, handles like a feather, tight, crisp actions, and I can't wait to get the wood fixed up. Love the shape of the hammers on this gun. Very graceful. The barrel flats have a 43 stamped on them too, which leads me to wonder if maybe they were from a Husqvarna model 43? They are silver inlaid and match the gun though. Hmmm...:

The other is a Meriden grade 18 I took in on trade. The metal was restored so all I had to do was fix up the wood. It had no grain so I wanted to add some horizontal grain and these iridiscent silver, blue and brown swirling oak leaves to mimic the case coloring on the receiver. This is a stout 8 lb 30" f/f gun, and a fantastic shooter. I may be selling it, but haven't made up my mind yet.

Thanks for sharing mark. I like the subtle look of the silver inlays on that gun.

Hey Mark

If the wind blew that hammergun in, I want to find out what hilltop your standing on. You know I'm a sucker for a hammergun and that beauty could sway me from my 16 ga. obsession

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to remove the cheek piece on the hammer gun stock and see what I can come up with. These old guns with plain wood are like antique blank canvases that I get to play with. What fun!

The Meriden is nice, no question about it. But, that hammer gun is a jewel! I don't believe I could bring myself to remove the cheek rest....but that's me and it isn't my gun!

I know low grade Belgian guns have a bad rap as clunkers, but this gun is certainly not in that category. As a high grade gun of its time (1880's-90's?), in my opinion, it looks like it could be in a firearms museum if the wood were restored. It does indeed fit like a glove as is with the cheek rest. I'll keep that in mind...
