I am thinking about getting a Winchester 21 at a local shop. It is a duck with 32" barrels, ejectors and 3" chambers. The gun is in about 90% condition and has nice wood and the original buttpad. The shop is asking $6900. Is this a good price or overpriced? Auction sites have too much variation for me to get a good feel.

Also, in a different bracket there is a Parker VHE with 30" barrels, fluid steel, wood is in good shape, a good amount of faded but very visible case colors all over the receiver for $2200. Are the prices at my local shop high about right?

A quick scan of the net has Ducks from $6000 to $8000
with a high of $12,000. Make 'em an offer.

Model 21's are great guns. They are high priced. Cheaper in 12 bore. That price seems a tad high, but might be right for an ALL original specimen. They are heavy guns in 12 bore. I would offer less as mentioned above. There is a slight premium for the 3 inch 'Duck'. The Parker shotgun might be a better deal??

What do you intend to use it for? The Win would be good for ducks and probably little more if the chokes are tight. The Parker will most likely have stock dimensions few would appreciate. Further, M21 sellers have been asking a lot for their offerings and I see few being sold right now. I would expect that if your seller is motivated he will come off that price a good amount.

Yeah, listen to Ed.....go for the Parker; that'll give me a chance at the 21 Duck. Where did you say it was?
In the long run, the Winchester will retain higher value and probably fit better unless you like a lot of drop and shoot head up like Professor Joe whose style resembles someone trying to peer over a fence.

The Duck may have a 13 5/8" stock with pad.

Standard configuration for a 'Duck' made for stock is 30 or 32" barrels, F/F choke(34 thousands) and 13&5/8" LOP for wearing with heavy clothing while waterfowl hunting. If you have never used a 'Duck' while hunting in cold weather, you will be surprised at how much the shortened LOP helps.
$6900 for a 90% 'Duck' is way overpriced, generaly thes guns come in two flavors, well used and not used hardly. Keep looking bbut be aware that many Model 21's that are like new have been refinished. Good luck.-Dick

Take three aspirin twice a day and drink plenty of water--the urge will pass in a couple of days.
