Just don't shoot a 21 on Saturday and then shoot a Boss game gun on Sunday. It will ruin you for the 21 forever.

You guys knocking the Winchester Model 21 are something in my book. They are very good guns IMHO. They have chopper lump barrels which is a sign of a 'best' gun. They are very stout and well-balanced for their intended purpose. In this regard, I saw a man win over $100,000.00 shooting live birds with a Model 21. I'm pretty sure he felt he was using an excellent gun which in no way resembled a 'baseball bat". For sure, no one watching him shoot thought he was using a baseball bat! Personally, I have owned several Model 21's as well as many English guns, including 'best' sidelocks, such as Boss, Holland and Holland and Purdey shotguns. I still own some of these guns. They are all very nice, but so are the Model 21's. And, if I want to shoot high powers, I don't go English......I use a Model 21 or a Browning Superposed (another great gun, IMHO ). Model 21 Winchester shotguns are very good guns and the market generally agrees with me.

You guys just don't get it. Most of us who own and shoot Model 21s also own and shoot British, Italian, Belgian, and other shotguns.

I am not disputing that the 21 is a fine gun it's kinda like having to choose between Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn for us older guys or Katy Perry and Taylor Swift for the younger crowd.

Buzz,
your right, they seem to be well liked, have a great following & sell for good money...but what do you mean by "Shooting high power(s)" ?
I guess my thing is I just don't find them even remotely handsome....but a gun doesn't have to be pretty to be good, n beauty is in the eye etc etc
shoot em in gd health buzz, no harm meant

I know no harm was meant, Franc. And I didn't mean any harm. By 'high powers' , I'm talking 1 1/4 oz shot, 3 3/4 drams of powder, such as Federal Hi-Powers or Remington Express. Even Win or Fed 'flyer' loads with 1 1/4 oz of shot and 3 1/4 drams of powder would be real hard on English 'best' guns. I sure as heck don't shoot them in my English guns! I hope no one takes what I've said as offensive. Holy cow, we are just talking guns. Buzz

Winchester model 21s are not chopper lump barrel guns-they are dovetail lump.

They are chopper lump, with barrels dovetailed together at the lumps. Lumps are not attached by dovetail to the barrels -- each half lump is the same piece of steel as barrel.

Agreed. Model 21 barrels are unequivocally of chopper lump construction. Then the lumps are dovetailed together. I can see why Ted is confused, because this is a little complicated, but 21's are clearly chopper lump.
