Alvin, I was only referring to side by sides, not all guns.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I am going to make an offer and see how it goes. One other question I would have is what are some of the things to look for that indicate the gun is not original? I have been looking at a lot of examples on line of the 21 and my local example seems to match. Anything specific I should check?

I have been looking at a lot of examples on line of the 21 and my local example seems to match. Anything specific I should check? Many Model 21's have been 'redone'. If redone properly, and as Winchester would have done, 21's really don't take much of a hit in the market place. One thing to know for sure is the barrels were always rust blued and the receivers and furniture were NOT rust blued. In terms of other changes you will need to compare, such as wood finish, etc. Many, many of these guns had 14" LOP.
Socialism is almost the worst.

Prices are unreasonably high no doubt, but I read your entire post, again. Kol, donīt be insane, they are baseball bats ... buy a nice between the wars English boxlock for less money with a 100 times the workmanship and 1000 times the handling, best, Mike Maybe I wouldn't think you were putting down my "baseball bat" if you claimed your preferences had workmanship only twice as good and only 10 times better handling? By the way, baseball bats are also very nicely suited to their purpose. Jay

Well then, lets get into the subtle differences between wood and aluminum bats before we come to any conclusions about how nicely suited any bat might be...

I'm with Mike Bailey, Man, if I had nearly $7000 to spend on a BOXlOCK,....I'd be after some really beautiful English or fine Belgian Gun.Nice colour, really nice engraving, carved fences etc. I never understood the 21 thing...I'm sure they are Stout, but there are other things to consider in that price range I think.....like er, elegance & beauty? I know it sucks , & folks get pissed when someone posts a negative, so sorry for that, but I just don't get it.But I am from Blighty. Perhaps if I was American I'd get it no harm meant best franc
