Herschel Sidelock Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 141 South Arkansas	According to The Springfield 1903 Rifles by Brophy, the Special Target 1903 was a standard rifle with a barrel that had been selected by star gauging that met National Match Standards. Beginning in 1928 the term "special target" was applied to a reconditioned National Match rifle. Which type "special target" the subject rifle is would depend on when it was sold.
