I am in Dallas and have a Silver Pigeon IV in 20ga. Beretta has on sale on the web the 28 ga barrels for around $650. I went to the Beretta Gallery in Dallas and they quoted me $1,650.00 for barrels and fitting. I said what is the extra $1,000 for? They claim it's for fitting and a new forearm. Is a new forearm required? Can't I just use the 20 ga forearm? I now have no trust in them and am looking for a good smith near dallas who can perform this work. Thanks for all replys.

I had a Beretta 687EELL 20 ga. and bought a 28 ga. barrel set for it from Joel Etchen. The 20 ga. fore-end will fit but there will be a small but noticable gap between the wood and barrels. Joel Etchen sold me a fore-end with the barrels - I vaguely recall the total price was $1200, which included having a local gunsmith do the fitting and refinish the fore-end to match the stock finish.

You might want to call Joel Etchen to compare prices. Coles is another option both to buy the barrels and to do the fitting - they charge $150 to fit barrels bought from them, $200 for barrels bought elsewhere.

Well, Briley is not that far away and they could do it. If you use only the 20 ga forend you will probably have a gap between the tubes and the wood. May or may not be a problem on your gun. When I put together my Black Onyx 2-gauge set, I looked around for a second forend to fit the extra barrels.

I bought a set of barrels for my sporting gun and all I had to do was time the ejectors. Maybe I was just lucky! smile

Thanks guys. I called Cole and it sounds like they can do it for much much less.

I thought that barrels on the 68x series were interchangable except for forend fit.

That's probably true part of the time. I know a guy who bought a set of 20ga barrels for his 28ga 686 and the gunsmith could not get them to fit, even with some tweaking.

Beretta barrels in that series will interchange much of the time with no, or only very minor, tweaking, but the only doubleguns I have seen that have truly interchangeable barrels are Valmets and Blasers.

B. Rizzini used to brag loudly about the interchangeability of their barrels and parts because of their investment in CNC machining.

I just fit a set of 410 to a 28 and it was about 6 hours of carefull work. The gap problem can be solved by adding a wood shim to the barrels the way Browning does on their four barrell sets.
