I have this old Bernadelli SxS. It says Royal Merlin on the bottom. I have heard about Roma & Gamecock but never about this model.

27 inch barrels, ejectors, articulated front trigger and looks like a higher grade wood.

Are the Bernadelli's comparable to the Berreta's. Any help wih value.

Thanks

Thanks.

The prices are all over the map. I have seen them from a couple of hundreds to a couple of thousands.

Here are some in the upper range, these may not be a realistic price.

If that's an AC on the barrel flats--not quite clear in the photo--it's a 1977 gun. Looks like a sidelock, but the V. Bernardelli Roma series guns were pretty convincing sideplated boxlocks. Have never heard the "Royal Merlin" model name, in reference to V. Bernies, either sidelocks or boxlocks. John Boyd, who's a former Bernardelli importer and dealer, might have an answer. If it's a sidelock, minimum value would be somewhere north of $5,000.

This is a nice gun with nice engraving and nice wood but it is not a sidelock, I have seen "Merlins" before and they are equivalent of the Roma series.

I'd say the highest grade V. Bernardellis ARE comparable to Berettas. Yours looks to be one of those. But in terms of an actual sale price, Bernardellis don't command a comparable price easily because they don't have the instant brand recognition that Berettas do. The brand just won't "sell itself" the way a Beretta would.

To me, yours looks to me to be sidelock, not a boxlock with sideplates. At least it doesn't look like the sideplates on my (MUCH lower grade) sideplated Roma 3. Needs a VB expert to tell for sure (or a double gunsmith who can take a plate off and put it back on correctly). If John Boyd ran Quality Arms, he would be the guy.

I also have never heard of this model, which may have been made specifically for export to the UK, given the model name.

Pretty gun, for sure.

Thanks everyone for the info.

L.Brown - Yes, it is an AC in a box on the flats,

Mike A. - Does the Roma have a Purdey style 3rd bite and articulated front trigger? My gun has a purdey style 3rd bite and articulated front trigger.

A local gunsmith (1950-60s) used to carry a line called Prandelli-Gasperini (spelling??) that was made by V Bernadini. They had pins on the sideplates like this one but were boxlock guns. Check the triggerplate, this is a boxlock, side locks don't have this type.

I agree is is a side plated Boxlock. A very nice gun. It appears to have a traditional breech pin joining stock to action. The Roma series uses a bolt through the stock. The hidden third fastener was very common on these guns. V Bernadellis are well made and offer fantastic value.

Oberndorf, the Romas do have a hidden 3rd fastener and articulated trigger.

Joe, once more John Boyd would be the guy to provide the details here, but as I recall, the earlier Roma series guns had the long tang and attached to the stock that way rather than via a through bolt. Later guns lost the long bottom tang and had the through bolt. Not sure when that change took place.
