I have the pair of PO Ackley books, they are a real mine of information. I have just about worn them out.
I bought a rifle in 270 Ackley Magnum, found out all about the cartridge.
Donneley's book of cartridge is worth its weight in gold too, that is pretty worn as well

Ok, closer exam shows it to be a 240 Gebby. I am still learning to navigate the site. I will try to get a picture on if I can figure it out. The rifle is a nice Remington Springfield 1903, not an A3. It has been rebarreled and polished and blued. The barrel looks good inside and at the throat. It has a Jager trigger installed. Overall rifle looks good, but the stock is not that well finished. Looks like it needs rebedding and refinishing. Has sandpaper scratches on the wood under the finish. I actually bought the rifle because it had a Weaver 330 M8 scope with the Redfield mount. I have already sold the scope for more than I paid for the rifle. Now trying to figure out if it would be a good addition to the arsenal. Thanks to everyone. I will try to get pictures soon.

I live in Lewiston, and have for 70 years. Knew Gibbs and also knew Jack O Conner when he lived here. Viola is still a place, but barely. A jeweler named Al Newell liked to wildcat the 30-40 Krag and when you got him and Gibbs in the same room it was fun to listen. Where did this Gebby live?

The 2003 Handloaders Handbook lists 2 rounds
1) 240 Gebby Super Var
2) 240 Gebby Belted Var
There was a lot of interest in the 50's & 60's in .243 / 6mm loadings. The 240 Gebby Super Var is based on a necked down 30-06. The 240 Gebby Belted Var used the 284 Winchester with a belt ala Weatherby.
P. O. Ackley has the 240 Cobra which was the 220 Swift necked up to 6mm.
Your best bet is going to be a cartridge cast. The rounds were high pressure loads.
I got caught in the 243 / 6mm trap. Had a custom rifle built based on the 6mm Remington. Had no thought at the time that 243 Winchester would become as popular as it did.

vcmi60, Jerry Gebby lived in Dayton, Ohio when he barrelled my .22 Varminter. In google listing, Nebraska is mentioned. I don't know anything about that. Gebby is also known for owning and reworking Barbara Hutton's Deusenburg. He was a man of many talents.
