Buzz, Mike,

With regards to the Franch 48AL, what do you think of the kick? I bought one a little while back (20 gauge) - after how much I read about them. I loved its lightness and handling; and I was looking for a 20 gauge auto for my daughter. Then we shot it at our skeet range on base - my daughter stopped shooting it because of the kick and I couldn't believe how much more felt recoil it had over my SKB 3000. I sold it because my daughter disliked it so much. So, I'm a litle stumped at how much good I've rad about them with a kick like that. What do ya'll think?

Sincerely,
Patrick

Patrick; With regard to 'kick' of the Franchi, I think they do kick a little harder than a heavier, gas operated automatic. Gun fit is very important with these guns. Mine fits me well so I shoot Remington Express in them and it's not too bad. Equally important is setting the rings properly for the heavy loads. I have shot a Franchi that did not fit me well.....had too much drop and too much cast and it really thumped me. So, I think gun fit is real important with these light guns, and really all guns for that matter.

Buzz,

Thanks - there's another 48 floating around here that I may take a look at.

Patrick you might try the 28 gauge version. She only loses an 1/8th ounce of shot.

I have many 5-1/2 pound SxS sixteen gauges that kick too much to enjoy shooting skeet with them. Don't even notice the recoil when I shoot birds though.

Chuck you read about nine words of an entire thread and then just jump in and start typing. If you had read ALL the posts in the thread you would know I was twelve in 1967.

Best,

Mike

"Laws" and "shotgun patterns" really don't belong together, given how variable patterns from the same gun and load can be. From the perspective of taking birds in the field, not looking at holes on a 2D piece of paper, can it be said as a matter of field experience that a 7/8 oz load from 20 ga will not take birds as "efficiently" as the same load from a 12 ga.?

The most efficient person gets his bird at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Mike,

I'd love to get 28 gauge, but I'm in Japan and have yet to see one here. I keep looking, but may have to wait until I'm back in the states.

Again, my take on "the love affair with smallbores" is that it's an extremely small segment of all American gunners and still a small segment of those here on this bbs. Just to throw another log on the fire, my perspective is that a 16ga is hardly a "smallbore". More like the 12ga is a "bigbore". Wasn't the 16ga the standard bore in Europe?
