GUYS: I have a mint 1903 National Match BARRELED ACTION, original with the exception of the following...
1. it has been hot blued
2. it is missing its': ENTIRE front sight, ENTIRE trigger assbly and floorplate [not triggerguard]
3. it has also been DRILLED AND TAPPED [3 HOLES] Redfield scope base hole spacing. The bollt handle is original.

IT IS A STAR GAUGE BARREL [strong mark] that does not appear to have been fired much at all, electro pencil matching number on bolt, headless cocking piece, reverse safety.

SRS CHECKS... 1268892NM 100225DCM RIFLE SALES 1922-42

As I hope to list it Sunday on Gunbroker, I would like a consensus of its' general value, by our most learned [everyone] membership! I am asking this because, as many of you may know; I don't do military guns! [my fortes' are Pre war Sporters, and sometimes, NRA SPORTERS and 1922 M1 M2. I obtained this rifle in sporter form and I couldn't bear to see it remain, basically a "deer rifle" [no shame in that]. Especially when I knew how sought after they were by mlitary collectors. What say you, we few...we happy few ...we band of brothers! Jerry

Postoak: It would depend on the offer, but of course it would have to be something vintage and classic, either 1903 or Mauser. BTW I hope you understand the only part missing in the lower outer assembly is the floorplate, not the triggerguard and screws. Let me know. Jerry

Are the original markings still on the barrel, just behind where the front sight would have been? If so, what are they?

What is the diameter of the barrel just in front of the receiver ring? Is there a longitudinal slot in the bottom of the barrel where the rear sight (if any) was removed?

Is the present stock made of fiberglass?

Bill: The barrel date and ordnance bomb are gone except for a single punch mark. The barrel swell and key slot is still there for the reinstallation of a front sight.

There is such a Slot present.

The stock has been LISTED ON EBAY, it is on A 7 DAY auction at ebay, the current bid is $39.95 Item number: 150957347972

Hope all is well!!! Jerry

Jerry,

What you describe is pretty discouraging to a Springfield collector. The value of the NM action pretty well bottomed out with the addition of the three tapped holes for a Redfield base. Similarly, the lack of proper markings on the barrel (except for the Star Gauge mark) pretty much relegate it to the value of a well made used modern barrel.

I have sitting in my gun rack a Springfield sporter which has had the stock "checkered", the receiver crudely drilled and tapped for a side mount, the barrel shortened and the bolt handle altered. The overall effect is like a train wreck. Good luck on finding a buyer!

Bill
