That pattern might have been made with the barrel smith using the same stock for the fine and large pattern. The fine pattern looks to have more layers, drawn much farther, but it may have started out as the larger pattern stock.
Doc Drew, don't know if it applies to all situations, but I've seen twisting demonstrations where the stock gets quite a bit shorter. It can be drawn back out longer, but the pattern can be significantly changed and a good amount of iron/steel seems to be lost with each heat.
Just thoughts. Nice looking gun with interesting barrels.
