A friend of mine who owns a pawn shop called me today to evaluate a Shattuck 12 ga double he bought over the weekend. It's a blued-over Damascus, all matching #s (6906), tubes cut to 29-1/2" with a repaired chip at the top right tang. It's on face, mirror bores, decent checkering, bushed firing pins and original buttplate. My questions---- I've seen only one other double (and LOTS of single barrels), but cannot find any reference to Shattuck guns- particularly doubles. Does anyone have a brief history of Shattuck guns that makes reference to their double production? What little I have found infers that they produced only single barrels. Any idea as to a ballpark value, given my brief description?

Daryl, This is a Hatfield MA, gun. I don't have pics if this is not sufficient.

Daryl, Another thing I didn't mention---- it has a roller mechanism on the bottom of the FRAME that releases the barrels from the receiver,--- not unlike a roller latch on a forend for removing the forend from the barrels.

Well, then it's like the Forehand guns and later the Hopkins and Allen. Sort of tricky to take the barrels off until you get the gist of it. Value is a hundred or so as a wall hanger.

Vorisek shows both trigger break hammer and top-lever hammerless single barrels by C.S. Shattuck, Hatfield, Mass. and a hammerless double that does look like a Forehand made 1903 to 1909.

It's a blued-over Damascus, all matching #s (6906), tubes cut to 29-1/2" with a repaired chip at the top right tang. "Blued over" spells trouble (loose ribs if hot blued)....."tubes cut"....stock "repaired" at top of action. Sight seen or unseen I'd put the value low...real lOw.
