I would not take time to describe the means of producing all the varieties of Damas today known; that would require details too much long. I will say only that for this kind of work, Saint-Etienne is much more advanced than all the other factories. With the Expositon of London of 1861-1862, a barrel representing five different variety of Damas was about all this one could see, by visiting all the Expositions both of Birmingham and of London, while I presented eighteen varieties, and this is not all this can be done.
