It is noted that for Damascus pattern welded tubes a preferred finish was achieved from either pickling, smoking or both Info from the 1853 Irish International Expo notes the French rollers took the pattern possibilities to new heights. I will say only that for this kind of work, Saint-Etienne is much more advanced than all the other factories. With the Expositon of London of 1861-1862, a barrel representing five different variety of Damas was about all this one could see, by visiting all the Expositions both of Birmingham and of London, while I presented eighteen varieties, and this is not all this can be done. They were purported to be masters in pattern welded tubes and are noted to have adopted/advanced the "American invention choke", which was "perfected in England". Claude Verney-Carron was born in Dec. 1800 & expired in 1870 and I wonder what his quality control stamp might have been(Crown over CC)? I realize he name was Claude Verney but when he married Antoinette Carron in 1830 he hyphenated his last name. Kind Regards, Raimey rse
