I would just note that deceptions between husbands and wives are seldom conducive to long marriages. And while she may not know what your guns are worth or what you paid, the divorce attorney will figure it out. Lots of divorces are in the Purdey and Holland and Holland class.

It does look like someone recased the gun More like it was torched by Ed. Anyone who compares this to Ed's work is a complete F'n moron. It was re-cased, but, it was done here, was NOT done with a torch, and has colors that would look better on an American gun. Belgian colors are similar to English colors, more muted with emphasis on straw, brown and deeper blues. Whats done is done. I don't share the opinion that a Webley 700 is a better gun. Not at all. That being said, I'd spend a year or so figuring out which worked better for me before I got rid of either. How you and your wife arrange your affairs between each other is purely up to the both of you, and someone who makes comment on that is no gentleman. Best, Ted

In his immortal poem about the Wedding- "A million women like Maggie, are willing to bear the yoke- but a woman's only a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke" That poem is entitled THE BETROTHED, and the quote is: "A million surplus Maggies are willing to bear the yoke, and a woman is only a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke" Great poem, but does not apply here. You are already wed, the cigar smoker was not. If she is the love of your life, you do well to place that ahead of guns. Time will sort all the other stuff out. Once she realizes she is the most important thing to you, all this other stuff will pale in importance to her. A great, and lifelong, marriage is of far more import than the next used gun (hard as it may seem to believe at the time  ) . All my best, SRH

Well, as a late comer to the discussion, I'd say $350 for the wife, and $550 for the heavily reworked if functional Belgian shotgun, more if it's 16 ga.. Consider this an offer for the latter....

And being the only son and grandson from a family of gun collecting and shooting/hunting with them males has its advantages, inheritance wise. I only buy used guns from private parties, mainly earlier Model 12's and pre-1913 LC Smiths, both primarily in 12 gauge. I have my gun and shooting fund, and she has her arts and crafts fund. Touche!!

Best, Ted "Ed's work??"" work implies, to me anyway, a skilled and caring craftsman- I can think of a lot of phrases to describe "Da Edster" here, but as perhaps the fairer sex might on occasion, frequent these pages of Epostolic "sturm und drang" I will refrain. I would rather take a used but shootable 1926 mfg. BHE 20 bore Paaaarkar quail gun and "deep six" it with a logging chain secured to the trigger guard bow into a nice ripe outhouse with a full tank- and let it stay there submerged in the scheise, than ever turn it over to a torch crazy idiot like Ed- he could foul up a wet dream in a harem or whorehouse without breaking a sweat-

My point was that this was no torch job. But the guy who told you it was a torch job has spent six pages arguing with some of Englands best gunsmiths trying to make the point that a gun shown in a photo here was a screwgrip when it clearly was not.
He doesn't know anything about torch "work" if you'll excuse the use of the word, either, it would seem.
