My Griffin and Howe style 1922 sporter weighs over ten pounds with a sporter configuration Springfield barrel.

Ya, these old target rifles make into heavy squirrel rifles. I have a G&H restyled 1922 with the original stock and it is heavy. I also have one with a G&H stock and a much lighter 22" barrel. Not weighed it, but it is considerably lighter. I'll get some pictures of it up some day.

I don't mind packing a little extra weight out in the woods, as long as the accuracy makes it worthwhile! If it's not accurate, then even a lightweight gun is not worth packing.

Very nice!
Though I think she might have made the bunny just a little too greeting-card cute.

Her first sketch was much more cartoony, she pulled back from that quite a bit. For what the gun is, I think it is fine. It was a fun project that my son and I did together, and I think the scrimshaw ties in with that. He decided on the rabbit and squirrel idea and ok'd the sketch. I wanted her to do a picture of Ben with his dog, but he didn't like the idea.

I did some internet research and the M52 has a Wikipedia page. I know these are only as good as the last contributor but this looks well done and they state the standard target barrel is 28" and .75 at the muzzle. Mine is 28" and .71 at the muzzle, definitely a target barrel and a 52C.

Just pulling it out now after several years I had forgotten I had George Beitzinger D&T it for Warne Mounts. I think I'm going to see how well the old barrel shoots before committing to stock work.
