For 40-50SS,use 30-40Krag or 303 British cases- not too expensive.For 40-70SS,you can use 405 Hornady cases-also not too bad.

I am extremely pleased pleased with a custom contoured barrel I had McGowen make for me. It is unbelievably accurate, was delivered to me very quickly, and most important of all they matched the original barrel perfectly. This was critical, because for the British sight island to remain valid the front and rear sights had to be replaced in exactly the same registration. I was amazed to find with 2 different loads no sight filing was required.

I should also add that this was done for a very reasonable price.

I have had 40-70 SS, 40-50 SS and 40-50 BN and I would SURE vote for the 40-70 SS

40-60 Maynard, easy easy to make cases from 30-40 Krag. In shooting no difference fro the 40-70 SS as I have one of those to.
