Im hoping that someone who owns a Zabala-built 28 gauge side by side will take out a Vernier caliper and give me two measurements. I need to know the length of the barrel flats, front to rear, and the diameter of the round section of one barrel, immediately in front of the barrel flats. These could be from a gun sold as Zabala Hermanos, Richland Arms, Kassnar Arms, American Arms, etc. Your help would be of great assistance to me in planning a new project.

Ron I have an American Arms Brittany In fact I have quite a few  The 28 and the 410 will interchange barrels and forends, Love that as I have one stock shorter for colder weather hunting. Measurements to come shortly Mike

The barrel flat length is 2.574"
External barrel diameter immediately forward of the barrel flat is .800"

I can't thank you enough for that info. The project is a double rifle in calibre 6.5x57 Rimmed. I already have the barrels but need to know if a Zabala 28 has the correct dimensions to house them. I already own one in calibre .22 Hornet that I built on a .410 that Zabala built for CIL here in Canada.

Yes I have Ellis's book. I have been doing this for many years now. Was in Zimbabwe in September and took Cape Buffalo, Sable, Chobe Bushbuck, and Klipspringer with a .450 #2 Nitro Express that I built on a BRNO 12 bore. Last year I went to South Africa and took Cape Eland, Duiker, Blue Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Nyala, and two Warthogs, with a double in .303 British calibre that I built on a Laurona 20 bore. It adds a whole new dimension to the experience to do it with a gun that you've built yourself.
Unfortunately, there is not enough meat in the .410 barrels, 3" forward of the breech, to contain these pressures safely. That's why I'm looking for a 28 gauge.
