All my guns go thru at least a once a year annual maintenance. For those used infrequently I generally inspect and clean quarterly. Those used frequently are usually cleaned after each use and undergo a detailed cleaning(beyond a field strip) annually. I am fortunate to live in the Southwest with low humidity so rust isn't a problem. However wood needs frequent maintenance to avoid drying and warping as well as leather items.

At day's end I sic a bore snake on them and wipe them with a Kleen Bore silicone gun rag. At season's end, Hoppe's #9, a good bore brushing and one of several gun oils in the barrel, outside wiped with the silicone rag.

I recently took all my guns out, cleaned and treated them all with Froglube. Seems to be really good stuff.

I might use 5-6 different guns in the field hunting season. Each gets a wipedown after use, and a good cleaning at the end of the season which is upon us. If I hunted in precipitation it gets cleaned.

I've bought guns that had'nt been cleaned in who knows how long and the bores came out OK. Cleaning after a couple months of being fired only a few times has presented no problem. But, like was said, they have to be checked about a month later after cleaning for "sweating" streaks.

Same as GLS above. I gun in the worst environment imaginable, salt air and water to the eyeballs, carry in case to and from the blind, clean barrels, wipe and bob's your uncle, haven't had rust or problems in nearly 75 years. It's a stretch to say they look the same or better than the day I bought them---but not much. All this talk of rainy-day guns gets a smile from me. These guns---darn good guns--- were made to be used in any weather;a modicum of care is all you'll need.

Those same English gentlemen who were so "sporting" viciously crushed all opposition in India, started concentration camps in South Africa, and leaned stretchers up against the wall in Dublin for firing squad executions.

I love Brit guns and other stuff, but am not foolish enough to fall for their pablam then, through history, or now

Not much has changed in the last 200 years.I'm not much for sitting out in freezing rain either anymore. I guess it's old age or perhaps some common sense sinking in. I used to think nother of sitting on a deer stand for 8 hours straight in below zero weather when hunting in the Midwest.
And Drew you have have to cut the author some slack since they didn't have Thinsulate back then! grin

My soul, did you get out of the wrong side of bed, there is a good chance that if us Brits hadn´t defeated old Bony you lot would be speaking French wink or German if we hadn´t managed to hold out in 1940 and persuade you chaps to join in smile best, Mike

The events you just described are not that much different than the "sins" that were committed in America, during the very short time we have been a nation. In fact you could simply replace some words in your paragraph and accurately describe American history. Replace "in India" with "from Indians" and "in South Africa" with "for Africans", and you have just described U.S. policy toward native Americans until the end of the 19th century and slavery.

How does the saying go? Something about a kettle and it's color...
