Just for fun, why don't you give us a picture of the removed breech block?

Sweet little rifle Mike.
I understand that Friedrich Jacob Bartels was a top rung maker so you have yourself quite a treasure. Let us know how it shoots and when, if you're planning on it, take it to the field.
Regards,
Mark

Mike, Very nice rifle.Dick Hummel and Axel had a very informative discussion about falling block rifles in "WAIDMANNSHEIL" a couple years ago. You might find it interesting,if you haven't already seen it.Have you shot it yet? If it hasen't been rechambered, please don't yeild to the temptation. Mike

Der Ami I haven't shot it and most likely won't. I bought it to resale. Not much use for the cartridge up here in Alaska.

Mike, I doubt you will have any trouble selling it.The 8.15x46R isn't very powerful, as you indicate, but it is a lot of fun to shoot, and there always some game small enough to use it on. With a careful shot,it will take small Alabama Whitetail. Enjoy it while you have it. Mike

Is it as powerful as the 35 Remington? 8.15 is a pretty good frontal area...

No steve, not close to 35 Rem. Just slightly more than the 32-40. I found a nice stalking rifle in 8.15 X 46R and was seriously considering it until Der Ami piqued my curiosity enough to check ballistics. Given its ballistics it has to be a fun round to play with and would be a great cast bullet cartridge as I believe that's what it was originally designed for. No doubt it would kill a deer within it's limits....but I prefer a little more oomph.
That one sure is a purty thang!
