http://www.stensby.co.uk

Still in business and the records do exist. I have a mid grade boxlock made in 1929. I'm quite sure it was made in Birmingham and retailed by Stensby. "Buy the gun and not the name"

The current Shooting Sportsman article on 2" 12ga guns has a few mentions of Stensby.

Hill Rod & Gun had a nice one a month or so ago. I was badly tempted.

I own a 12 bore with 2 1/2" chambers and ejectors. I am told it was manufactured around 1900 (serial # K 14xx). I bought it because it has fabulous balance, weighs in around 6 lb 4 oz and has stock dimensions I need. For me that is a nice weight, although the balance/fit were deciding factors.

I checked out the web site for T. Stensby & Co and it is not very informative. I sent them several e-mails trying to confirm the date of manufacture and original configuration, but I never heard back. A fairly knowledgeable friend thinks it is a Birmingham gun labled T. Stensby. Another source told me they made their own at turn of the century.

I have used it extensively for pheasant, grouse, quail and woodcock. I own 6 other shotguns and this is my favorite.

You may want to employ the logic my grouse hunting partner uses. "I dont know how many shotguns I own, but I know I need one more"

Yupp and Yupp. Still fighting the good fight, and living in Manchester. Mine is a lovely little Brummie boxlock, 25" barrels, made as a poor mans Churchill. Proof date 1935.

It's a "widows gun" cleaned up and still in the original case. The original purchaser Captain Bennett, did not come home post Singapore.

Regards
Eug

My Stensby is similiar to Chicago's. 6 lbs. 2 oz. 2 1/2" chambers and 27 inch barrels. Very light and fast.
Eugene-My Stensby was originally purchased by a Major J.D. Riddick. The letter from Stensby's said he was a famous man from Manchester but internet searches turn up nothing. Any ideas?

thank you for the replies I am looking at a Stensby that will be a long term buying project if that makes sense I will be paying it of over a long time it is in the hands of a collecter who picked it up in a trade as it is a boxlock and he is more interested in sidelocks it is surplus to his requirements
the gun is a BLE weighs 6Ib 4oz 2 1/2" chambers not sure of the barrel length or chokes but it handles beutifully as soon as I picked it up I had to have it it has a wonderfull peice of wood on it and some very heavily engraved fences I will have to try and get some photos
Chicago from memeory your gun is numbered around this one the owner rang T Stensby and was able to get info on it it was early 1900's as well
Hammergun in Oz we can get onto the Australian War Memorial and look up soldiers names to get some of there details I do not know if there is something similiar in the UK
