Joe,

I understand that. My post to Mr Burns was not to argue that point, but to support Greg's feelings about not wanting to have to nickel and dime a sale with customers.

We each conduct business as we see fit and some just can't accept that the tag price is righteous, regardless whether it is a big ticket item or not.

Greg's has obviously had his share of those kind of buyers. I have too.

Adam asked just this week what we thought was a FAIR price for a particular Stephen Grant. I will bet he did so because he wanted to sell it now and without a lot of dickering. And probably because he wanted to be fair.

He made the sale, made it quickly and I will bet too that he did not have to negotiate the price.

If all that is true, it illustrates mine and Greg's contention.

Please forgive me Cherrybomb, I thought that this was a chat room. I certainly did mean to waste your time.

The point behind my post RCC was that as a seller we often don't want to be nickle and dimed, but as a buyer we often have a way different view as no one wants to have to spend more than they have to for an item. I understand and respect your point, but GregSY' post came across to me as chiding someone for wanting to negotiate a price for something, which seems a little foolish to me. Its not like GJW offered the guy 50 dollars for an 1100 dollar item.

Seems to me that this is absolutely the right place for a discussion about pricing, buying, selling, etc--since we spend a lot of time talking about buying and selling doubles. Greg in particular often asks "Is this a good deal?" And he obviously has quite a bit of experience--but always good to have other opinions.

Having lived in an Arab country for two years, I'm used to dickering--and can't quite get used to going to auto dealerships and having them tell me that the price is a no negotiations deal. I'd almost rather go down the road to a competing dealer who will dicker--even if we end up in the same place!

I totally agree, Larry, and as for dickering/haggling, I almost never buy from someone that won't budge a little. To each his own, but half the fun of buying a new vehicle to me is the haggling. I absolutely get high on it. I have been known to drag it on for hours. One of my favorite things to tell a dealer, after beginning negotiations, is "Go make us a pot of coffee, we're gonna be here awhile". Doing your homework ahead of time to make sure you know what they can and can't do is essential, tho'.

Guess I'da made a good Arab. laugh

You guys missed my point entirely. It is because of the Second Amendment that we still have the right to buy and sell and dicker on gun prices. And past threads on gun pricing have led to disagreement and incivility. I say put it in Misfires. I can feel you guys forcing my hand to click on this subject! I haven't reached the point of e-mailing Dave with whiny feminine protests... but I may be getting close.

I am just the opposite Stan. I will do my research first and than pay a fair price, where and when I find it.

When buying a car or plane or boat, I will tell the dealer going in that if he will give me the price he will sell for, I will either write a check or walk.

Many times I have just shaken my head as I walked out of a dealership hearing a second price offered after I have said no to the first.
