I just can't stand selling anything to anyone who asks me what is the rock bottom price. Therefore, I assume it was the seller's way of saying in polite terms "Since you are so squeaky-tight, I'll give you just the type of price a penny pincher gets off on - one that is carried out the the very last penny."

GregSY's comment is pretty easy for me to accept. I expect a seller to price fair if he wants my business. I won't do his pricing for him.

I pretty much know what something is selling for before I buy.

If the price is right, I buy at the first stop. If it is close when going elsewhere is added in, I buy. If not I go elsewhere.

But I do not dicker. I didn't when I sold and I don't when I buy.

I never have not bought a higher end gun that the price was not set to dicker on. Guns are like cars in the price s always had a little room to move. I also have a feeling GJW asked a little more tactfully about the price than he did here.

There is much truth in all three of your sentences. It is why on occasion I have made an offer to buy for less than what was asked. I have done so on planes, boats, sports cars, real estate and horses and if I offered I was prepared to write the check. I have never done so on shoes, nuts or bolts.

If the seller countered, I walked. I hold to the belief that fair is fair only when it is so for both parties.

There is however a huge difference between buying fair and dickering. And that is why I can accept GregSY feelings about selling to those who would nickel and dime a price to death.

We may well be saying the same thing about fair, but I do think that Greg has a valid point about dickering.

All that is great, RCC, if the item has a well established market with prices easily compared. However, guns of the type we often buy are frequently one of a kind or seldom encountered. In other words, the market for them is not transparent. So, both seller and buyer engage in the time honored capitalist process of bid and offer, searching for a mutually agreeable price. I know of no other way to establish fair price other than through negotiation.

Hi all, I always try to dicker when I buy, and yes sell guns. There is always some room. And I am a bit more tactful when I ask about the pricing.

I agree with Bob, that one has to do his homework prior to buying, just common sense. You can get a good feel for the going market price.

I think Joe hit the nail on the head. Could not have said it better!

What threw me was the .88 deal Oh well!

Best!

Greg
