Surkamer made a new bolt sleeve sight and moved the safety to the trigger guard.

No small task that- but as the mid-position on the 1903 paddle wing safety (and also the great Mauser 98, just reversed for Safe and Fire modes) is also part of the decocking and bolt removal function, I wonder how he did that with his revision- sweet- would like to see his blueprints for this--How many fine BA rifles have a trigger guard safety like a Model 12???

I have seen the trigger guard safety on about every well known maker that I can think of.

No problem taking the Surkamer bolt apart, remove the bolt pull back on the cocking knob with the right hand and depress the release with the right thumb and spin the bolt with the left hand.

[/quote OK- now how about some details on Paul Jaeger of Jenkintown PA-- How do you [positively identify one of his rifles? Did he have a trigger with his last name marked on the blade. Photos of some of his fine rifles perhaps? Thanks- RWTF

I'm am not very knowledgeable about any of the post 1940 makers.

I have seen less than a half-dozen pre-war Paul Jaegers. They have been marked on the barrel "P. Jaeger Phila. PA."

After the war he moved to Jenkintown PA Many of his rifles that are not marked on the barrel with have a date and stockmakers initials stamped under the buttplate.

To my eye all the post war rifles look about the same. The stock not unlike the Krag below.

I can always find time for Mr. Wundhammer, it's my biggest weakness.

Will start at the very beginning. This is what I believe could be the very first 1903 Custom sporter made by a gunsmith.

One of my favorites, I started with just the stock and buttplate, five years and a dozen people later, a rifle.
