Michael and John Can,
I asked Nano for a makers name and for a serial number on the rifle to try and date it.

Another photo from Nano. A group photo of rifles that he owns. The Mauser in question is the 3rd from the top, with the full stock.

Another photo from Nano with some markings on the Mauser in question. If anyone is able, Nano would like any further information anyone can provide, based on the symbols seen in the most recent photo. Thanks, Nano

It looks like a pre WW2 Type S, pre WW1 had a rounded grip. Dont see any #s but this may help. Don't know how to get there directly, so > NitroExpress > Mauser Discussion > "Original Oberndorf Mauser 9 Sporter Variants" by Jon Speed.
Hopefully I haven't crossed some line in the sand but Nano & Others will find it helpful. FWIW

Thanks John. This link should take one to the topic and article you mentioned on NitroExpress. I explained to Nano what you said about it being pre WW2 Type S and told him to go into the link that I posted, based on the directions you gave to the Nitro Express article. http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=183938&an=0&page=0#Post183938

Nano,
