Thanks everybody. Corvallis is almost close enough to drive to. It could certainly be a nice weekend in Newport. I will at least feel better about the gun not being in the hands of a shipping company all the way across the country. I have done a fair bit of work on a spanish sidelock I owned before but that gun only cost $100. That gun gave me more gunsmithing practice than I cared for. I'd like to see this Elsie taken care of better.
I may change my mind later on but the 3 position safety seems like a nice feature to me. For reference this one is a 1931 according to the LCSCA lookup service. Presumably that means someone special ordered the 3 position safety on it. Maybe someday after I have verified it's effectiveness on grouse I might send off for a research letter.
