I have an Ithica side by side in fair condition cosmetically. I am wondering if it is valuable and what if anyhting I should do to improve it. The main problems are barrel rust/pitting on the outside and a stock in need of cleaning. All parts have the same serial #.

whi,
Going by SN your gun falls into the 1898 - 1891 range. More details and pics will enable more feedback from others far more knowledgeble than me.

If you really have an "Ithica", which I seriously doubt you have a very very rare and valuable gun. But if it is an "Ithaca" and in the condition you describe it has minimal value unless the receiver has a lot of fancy engraving and the wood a lot of nice checkering. I would hang it over the fire place as an interesting conversation piece.

The scroll on the receiver of this ITHACA is simple and has a words "?EW ITHACA GUN" in the body. The grip of the stock is all checkered. The stock is plain and worn but no damage. The barrel has rust and some pitting. The bore is clean. It is a hammer 12G. Just figuring out if I should hang it or restore it. Would be my first gun restore.

If you are paying to have work done on it, hang it on the wall. The gun is about a $300.00 gun where I am. Unless you are doing the work yourself, you will never see your money back if that is a concern.

I can not tell by your picture but mine has scrolling on both sides with NEW ITACA GUN written in the body. I took steel wool to the stock and it cleaned up real nice. I notice your barrel has rust/scale. Should I leave this alone on mine or try to remove and re-blue.
