Greetings all,
I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to check serial #20804 and let me know when this Holland was made?
Also, would this gun likely be made by H&H or would it be a Scott gun? It's a No.2, hammerless, bar action sidelock with ejectors. Thanks for any info.

Should be 1897-1901.
I believe that the factory was up and running in 1893. so it should be a "true" Holland gun.
You can get the details from H&H in NYC. Just send them an email.
Good luck,
WC-

Sorry, 1896 to 1930 is all that is in the book. Need to get the ledger page May have been a factory gun earlier grade 2's were Scot guns. Do you have a photo?

Here are two images that may help with figuring out who made the gun. Also, it has 29 7/8" barrels. Could these be an original length? Seems like an odd size to me.

I have a similar Holland. I will try and locate the ledger page. I have always believed these guns to be made at the factory.

Looks like a Scott to me. The book is unclear as to date of make. It seems to be lumped in with "misc.guns and rifles", sn 20,000 to 21,999.

just call H&H in N.Y., they will look up the ledger entry on cd-rom and read it to you over the phone free of charge.

The proof marks should provide a general idea of when it was made.

For Hammer guns and No. 2 and 3 Hammerless, guns 20500-21149 were made 1897-1901.

Wow! I just called H&H in NY and had the most informative conversation I've ever had about a 114 year old gun!
Holland has the most comprehensive ledgers as well with superbly detailed info.
It says the gun was completed August 9th, 1899 at the factory. Apparently, it could still be a Scott gun but other evidence indicates that it was probably made by Holland. The fact that it is stocked "to the fences" indicates that it was probably made by Holland but is not absolute. The other reason is that it has only London proof marks on it which is a another indicator that it was made by Holland.
The gent from the NY gunroom informed me about all of the stock dimensions, weight, struck weight of the barrels, chokes, trigger pulls - great info indeed.
My hats off to them for providing such a great service for no cost at all. Clearly, they are interested in maintaining their heritage.
