The purpose of the 3-position safeties was so one could use it as an auto safe or non-auto safe as occasion warranted. No; it was not designed for the purpose of letting down the hammers. One of course does not let down the hammers with the gun open, but rather as the gun closes, when the gun bolts closed the hammers are down. "IF" one has a gun with a 3-position safety or a no-auto safe & "IF" the gun is stored assembled & "IF" one desires the gun be stored with the hammers down then this is the absolutle easiest method of doing it. There are, I have heard, a few ejector guns that shold not have the hammers so lowered, but not sure which ones. The only ejector I currently own with a 3-position safty is a Lefever & it works great on it.
