The American Museum of Natural History has been a magical place for me since I was a child in the early 1960's but I have rediscovered it since my sister started working there several years ago.
Yesterday I had the good fortune to spend the afternoon exploring parts of it again (it would take a couple of days to see it all)but especially the new Theodore Roosevelt Memorial. Along with many of the great man's artifacts there has been a major restoration of the North American Hall of Mammals diaoramas along with some from Teddy's Adirondack hunting area. The restorations are spectacular, especially two bull moose locking antlers and the Wapiti scene.
Anyone visiting NYC in the near future would be well served to stop in to see this $40 million facelift. I believe about 2 million was just for taxidermy and they also restored the murals representing important junctures in his life. My sister tells me that as soon as the funding is available they will be doing the same to the other halls such as the African & Asian Halls of Mammals.
Here's an article and slide show of some...n was going on. If you are coming send me an email, if I can meet you I will.
