Asking a question about a gun a buddy asked me about. This is the info he provided on the gun -- The Terada Firearms Co. LTD Crown Model H 35 12 Gauge Side-by-side Double triggers Auto ejectors Serial Number Y9870 Purchased at the Yokota Rod & Gun Club @ 1983

No answers but observations and opinion. Several pricey features on this gun. Chopper lump barrels, POW grip, case colours, rebated frame and forearm metal. Case colours on frame mostly worn off, but untouched on forearm metal. Odd wood colour match(?) between stock and forearm. Chopper lump joint left uncleaned. I suspect the frame bottom will look similar to pic in the Kawaguchiya-Hibiki-Miroku threads. I can't imagine there were too many 1955 - 1980 Japanese chopper lump barrel makers. Don't know, but I suspect you'll find this shotgun is "son of" or "kissing cousin" to the K-H-M production.

My Hibiki has the same chopper lump barrels, but with very different marks on the flats. Rear pins are the same, but this gun appears to have a removeable hinge pin under the screws. Mine lacks those. Might be barrels from the same source in both cases.

Can you get a bigger clearer picture of the mark to the right of the word "STEEL" Thanks Mike

Researcher,
What are your specific questions? I can check with the gun dealer from whom this gun was probably purchased - Far East Gun Sales, as well as one of our Japanese club members. Unfortunately, the Yokota Rod & Gun Club was shut down a while back. I live & work and Yokota, but am a member of the Camp Zama Club. I'll holler back next week.
Sincerely, Patrick

Looks like a replacement forend. The finishing is different.
I lived on Yakota AB from 1965 - 1968 and hung around the range as a kid shagging empties and decapping them.

Here is a bit better picture of the logo on the barrel flat -- Looks like an intertwined Y and G. I've asked Glen for specific questions.

These are possible but not set in stone??
So the gun is marked on the flats 12 = gauge 28 = barrel length Steel/Choke is written in English Serial number on forend and trigger guard is 987 The Y and the O on the barrel flats may have another meaning
What have I missed?
Mike

My Hibiki has several proofmarks that are missing on that gun:
70MM, NP (nitro proof), choke designations (imp, FC), and a sort of pitchfork over SP in a circle.

L. Brown,
I wouldn't get too wrapped up about what marks are or are not there. Mine really vary with who made them. KFC/Miroku/Hibiki (all the same company) have fairly complete marks. My Hamada sidelock (beautiful gun) has only the serial number and gauge on it. My Kasugas have good markings, but one other no name (assumed to be a Kasuga) has almost no markings on it. From what I can tell, some of the small makers did not put a lot of marks on the guns.
Sincerely, Patrick
