Wish I could Dr. Hause but can't say for now. Um, let me dig. But I knew that it would pique your interest.

Interesting. Lefaucheux was at this address (10, rue de la bourse) between 1834 & 1835, and between 1845 and 1850, when he moved to 37, rue Vivienne, on the next block. Unbelievably enough there is still a gun-shop at 37, rue Vivienne.
The action of stocking is called "monte a bois". "monte" can be used for some of the assembly or finishing. The French language is a bit surprising from a Prague worker, but French was the lingua franca of Europe at the time. The inscription means "finished by the the nephew of Kehlner in Prague". Probably the nephew successor of Anton Kehlner who died in 1841 in Prague.
I don't know what's behind the duck on the breech, except maybe it was the intended target for the gun.
Amazing barrel work...

Re: the case

Great find. Just need the trade label now!
If you have a fix on one, let me know.
That will be much harder than finding the gun...

It should look like:
Lefaucheux
37 rue Vivienne a Paris
Henry Rieger, successeur

There gotta be a way to make one. Maybe an antique book binding company?

1835 would be quite early for that quality of a 4 Iron crolle - twist barrel

No, I believe it dates to the 1845 - 1850 period and that would pair nicely with the nephew successor of Anton Kehlner post 1841 advertising. I have little confidence that newphew Kehlner contributed much effort, possibly nothing more than adornment. Is the general consensus that the tubes are of Bernard origin?

Hello WildCattle,

As far as the Trade Label goes, I have parchment paper and I make my own. Here is the finished case with label in place.

I spent a lot of time searching the internet for a proper label, but most cases were actually imprinted right on the cloth in gold, so this is the best I can come up with.

I did find the Lefaucheux family Crest and made a Lable using that, but I just couldn't handle it. Here it is in my case.

Of all the Family Crests, I can't believe such a Famous Name would have such a "Gay" Family Crest. I'm used to seeing Lions, Tigers, Bears, Crossed Swords, Crossed Battle Axes, Eagles, Hawks, Knights, etc.

But who in the heck would want a "Grasshopper" ... that's way too "lame" even for the Frenchman.

I think I'll just stay with the "Name" Label in stead.

buckstix,
It doesn't look like a cricket, looks like a grasshopper.I wonder what "Lefaucheux" means?
