If you can pay five grand for a decent gun you can pay for a decent room and worse you will not put up with motel 6 for 200+ a night. I stay where my wife is happy and eat the bill gladly. Easier to keep her happy for a few more bucks than listen to her grip about all the shortcomings of the hotel. I get all the gripping at home for free. smile

The days of "Lost Wages" as a cheap place to stay and eat are behind us. We should expect a decent place to stay and refuse to stay where a deployment over seas to a third world country would qualify as an upgrade.

Seems like there was a huge whining session not that many years ago about the Mandalay Bay place. Sounds like the three bears story.

Chuck and everybody else,
Your point of being in between the less than Motel 6 and the over the top Mandalay is well taken. I don't envy Wally's posistion. On the other hand he is making a living doing these shows. If that were my sole source of income, I would listen to those who provide that income.

For those who say "stay where you want and stop bitching" Try being an exhibitor like those of us in the Lefever Collectors Association who are there to only put on a show and truck all it takes to put on that show between multiple hotels. Like I want to be walking down the strip with a Lefever Optimus in my hand.

Try taking a taxi out of the Riviera to a decent restaurant without getting "the tour". This is a fine tour of the Las Vegas freeway costing a minimum of $25 bucks to go three blocks down the street. It's happend to me more times than I would like to admit until I started telling the taxi drivers I was calling 911 because I was being kidnapped. Note from Las Vegas newspaper, do threaten to call the police and pay a $10 fare, the police are pulling the licences from guys who do this.

Hey guys, this is one of my favorite non-shooting venues every year. But the substandard treatment we are getting is making it a real pain in the rear. I expect that I don't have to go buy my own soap to take a shower in the morning. It costs me more than $3000 out of my pocket to provide entertainment to those who visit the show. I am not trying to sell anything. The few folks who have never seen a high grade Lefever or heard the story of Uncle Dan make the trip worthwhile.

All it would take is a call or an email to Wally to move from Hotel from H#ll to the Holiday Inn. I hope I am not alone in this.

You are definatly not alone in this. I haven't attended the last two years because it's in the Riviera and won't again again as long as it's in the Riviera

I attended for the first time and while the show was Outstanding, my room in the Riviera was fine, but the overall Riviera Hotel was sub-standard!

Well, here's a note from the cheap seats. Last few years, not happy w/ the Riviera I decided to stay at the Palace Station. I had been going over there for breakfast for years anyway. Clean, attended rooms, way reasonable cost, and good food at the buffet and in the restaurants. Maybe it would be different if I were a Five Star guy.

OK so it's on the other side of the freeway. There is a shuttle that runs about every min to all of the casinos, including the ones, like the Rio, on the other side of the f'way. They didn't seem to have any problem w/ me and a couple cased guns either. I could have just driven over in the rental I had, but why bother?

Wally can have the show anywhere he wants far as I'm concerned. and I can stay anywhere I want too. People who attend as vendors may be unhappy and I can sympathize, but anyone else has so many options that who GAF where the show is?

JMO of course

have a day

Riviera is a dump. It is what it is.

Wonko,
I was not aware of the shuttle system. This would seem to provide a very easy way for those who need to transport stuff to and from the show easy access. If that is the case the venue for the show at the Riviera is OK. I didn't have any problem with the show itself, just the hotel service.
Still it would be easier if it was just held at a place where more of us would be comfortable. Also, if nobody stayed at the hotel I don't think Wally could carry it out since the hotel stays subsidize the event. This is evident in the notes Wally sends out imporing us to stay at the Riviera.
I'll bet that if we all boycot the hotel, while still attending the show the venue will be moved.

I have to say my room was pretty poor: heating didn't work too well and I had to use the covers from both beds to keep warm on the first night. Also no coffee machine in the room: on enquiry 'we don't have coffee machines in the rooms'.
BUT
I have traveled half way round the world to be there and I really don't want to travel any further than I absolutely have to. Walking down stairs for coffee and food suits me fine, staying elsewhere is not an option.
On the day after the show I have to repack everything for the flight back. Moving that lot round LV is also not an option.
FURTHERMORE
I paid about $180 for 7 nights. You don't get nice rooms at that rate and I knew that when I booked. This is a great show in a ghastly place (IMHO) and I put up with the hotel for the ease of attendance.

A bit more than 25 bucks a night? If that is their rates, I would not expect much and sadly I was not there, but 25 BUCKS!
