The box raises the price $2500? Wow. Sterlys have come up a bit in price.
The gun at the top seems pretty heavy for a 16 Fox, and has a ton of drop. Might just have been difficult for someone to shoot.

Ted

If you are asking for speculation, well based on viewing potos it looks too good to be true. what i mean is that it is superb condition but the checkering appears too sharp. the diamonds are too poiinted. Late Utica guns; this one is 1938, didnt have that sharp a checkring based on several of my examples. the foirend appears to have a small spot that may have been a repaired dent and it just looks like a damaged seciton that was pulled up and made level again. the case color loos a little too green for me. The trigger guard looks a little too polished and shiny and the rear guard screw slot isnt crisp. I am sure there are other things to look at and question.
again, this is based on the photos and thats it. I cant say for sure without holding the gun in my hands. without holding it and looking at i in perosn, its a hrd one to jusdge but based on what i can see, I am not sure its original.

Wildwood's been trying to sell that Sterly at or around that price for at least 3 years, maybe more.

I have Gun Digest magazines from five years ago, that were still the larger format, that have the same guns listed that they are trying to sell today, with a plea to call Dick or Craig. Do they ever sell any guns?

I firsdt recorded that Fox-Sterlingworth in the box at Wildwood in 2009, so they've had it a while!!

First gun looks refinished to my eyes. The triggers aren't bright as they should be, and the fit of the stock to the frame on the left side leaves something to be desired.

These guns from my collection aren't quite "mint" but the bottom one is pretty darn close, note the triggers --

I've been in the shop and seen them packing and shipping guns out. But they never seem to be selling shotguns, though IIRC they did have an 8 gauge Parker last fall that seems to have moved on pretty quickly.

Go figure. I think their rent is really low, being out in the country and all.

When I find a Fox in that condition, I take it out in the woods for a few days so the condition doesn't get questioned.
