Well... Guess all I can say is don't draw conclusions from too small a sample! The two high original condition capless pistol grip Fox-Sterlingworths in my gunroom have flutes.

Well Dave I guess that Savage was all over the place on comb flutes on Sterlingworths. My 16 gauge sn 3749XX which was made within 1500 numbers of the gun in question has no grip cap and no flutes on the comb and definitely has cyanide case colors.
