Mike, I guess you just had to be in the London Gun-Trade in 1953, If I were able to I would celebrate my 70th B/Day by bringing all my Old Muckers over to America for a real'Pissup'..Some of the Purdey Boys have gone onto theWorkshop in the Sky, But the Humor that existed in that Workshop enviroment was something that could never..will never be again. If you did'nt have a sense of humor you couldn't work those 50 hr wks.If you were to ask Peter Nelson Peter Finch, Desmond Mills,Ken Hunt, Peter Chapman, Laurie Salter, Ted Combin,Brian Sorrell,we joked, laughed, sang. All the while building the Purdey Guns & Rifles that today I watch coming onto the world markets for incredible prices.( The Names I've listed are all that are left of the Purdey Apprentices that I grew-up with, I was,(Still Am) the youngest of Harry Lawrence's 10 Golden Boys!)So Mike,Where you from,Are you in the Gun-Trade?Have you Served Your Queen in her Armed Services? Why are you in Canada?(cor blimey is not allowed to be spoken in London anymore, went out with the 2.3/4" proof stamp in 1972!!!!)CC/DT

Shoot-N-Release....I stand to be corrected, but Scrumpy was 'Slang" for Cider made from Apples. And the Somerset Variety seemed to be Very Potent'At a very young age, I was introduced to Scrumpy, working in the hay fields on summer holidays(13-14 yr old)'Hot Sun,Big Brown Bottles of Scrumpy,Girls with legs under those cotton skirts, vision blurred, something soft and supple under the 'Hand'...Then the 'Slap'back of the head, Farmer Glowthorn ordered us 'Townies'back to work.....Shelia's got to be 70+ now! Wonder who got her Dads Pair of Wm.Powell 12 bores???CC/DT

I was born n raised in lovely Somersetshire....the Cider is legendary..I was weened on it meself
Scrumpy would be to me the Rough stuff..very good & very mind warping....some of it could either be drank or sprinkled on cod n chips if you were out of malt vinegar[sarsons]
This would be stuff brewed by small farmhouse outfits..You bring your jug after dark & your lead out to the shed style....the commercial crap like Bulmers don't really count.
I get Mr Ts lingo ok?

No,Mr T, I did not serve in HM The Queens Armed Forces nor was I in the Gun Trade, mate. I'm an East Anglian boy, Essex-Suffolk border, raised on a farm. Came to Canada in 1975 for a look, excellent shooting and big game hunting so I stayed. I did like the real West Country scrumpy with all the bits floating around in it. Packs a wallop too, never underestimate it, it's not apple juice! I now live on a farm beside a national park in Manitoba, elk, moose, deer and bears around, and a ton of waterfowl in the fall, fields are white with snow geese. Just applied for my elk draw licence today, hope i get it, elk meat is really good! I'm happy.

By the way, Mr T, we had a genuine gunsmith from Purdey's living nearby me in Manitoba for a couple of years. He had a brass zippo lighter engraved by a Purdey engraver, he said. Nick Tooth, did you know him at all?
