I'd like to pick up one or two of these books but am not sure which volume to start with. I'm not terribly interested in the rook rifles, just looking to expand my knowledge of the singles, especially the Farqs.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Start at #2. If you like it then get others. #1 is usually expensive when you can find one.

If I were looking at new books, I'd take a look at Track of the Wolf. They show the table of contents, so you can decide which one(s) get your interest. I'm not sure, a few of the rare volumes were recently reprinted, but I suspect #6 is available from it's original printing and overall there may be less of them out there for retail sale.

If there ever was a set of something and you have some interest, you might consider getting them all while they're easy to come by. The rook rifle books are very impressive additions to the series.

I'm afraid the price of these books will pale in comparison to what the rifles I'll "have to have" will later cost me. Yes, an addict.

I also suggest Jonathan Kirton's British Falling Block Breechloading Rifles. Be sure to buy The 2nd edition published by Tom Rowe. The first edition by Hoyem had terrible photo reproduction.
