A 40-70 Maynard no.10 hunting & target model with optional fore stock.I have read that Maynard 40 cals. used larger bores,(as compared to Sharps or Winchester),not true in this case. After slugging the bore,.412 groves reduced to .410 at the muzzle with a .401 bore at the muzzle. The rate of twist is 1 in 28 ,as marked on the 32" barrel,I guess it's an express rifle.

An unmarked .64 cal. shot barrel came with the rifle, must be a later addition,it it hasn't been fitted and appears unfired.

Sadly,I will never know how the perfect bore will shoot, some %#*&@ idiot ran a drill into the chamber and rifling, off center and about 3 1/2" deep.I plan to to have it relined to a 40-60 Maynard, modern dimensions and faster twist,I think choices are limited with available liners.
