Never had a problem with Cheddites, except I find that as they are larger in diameter than US made primers they make the primer pocket larger so the 209s can fall out. I'll get my vernier gauge out in the firm expectation of being flamed, but it's true.

The other issue that can cause problems is thickness of the brass head. Doubles, especially old ones, can be particular about fairly small differences in tolerance. For example, you may think the problem is the primer (and it may be), but the same primer (assuming the recipe in question approves the switch) may work fine in a different hull. In some guns, with some hulls and thick enough brass, you'll get firing pin drag no matter what.

Mike, in the primers I have measured they were the same size as Winchesters and were stepped.
Federal 209A .239-.242 dia.

CCI 209 .240-.242

Rem. 209P .241-.242

Cheddite 209 .240-.243 stepped, most consistent in size

Win. 209 .240-243 stepped

Fiocchi 616 .243-.244 *

Rio type 209/G600 .244 *

Nobelsport type 209/686 .243-.244*

* readings taken by someone else

The stepped ones are the easiest to seat because of this.

This was a few years ago and I don't believe they have changed.
