I recieved an email today from the auction house and they answered my question about markings. On the reciever side there is 7.9mm. and then in a different spot 6.27, and then 845. I know the 7,9mm is a caliber designation, but not sure what caliber. The other 2 marks I'm not sure on. I think the 6 27 could be June 1927. and the 845 may be a serial number. Mike

The auction house also sent me some pictures of the bolt, they could not get the bolt to close, maybe the bolt was assembled wrong by the last person who took it appart. But it does show the serial number and the serial number on the bolt head is the same. Thank god no Bubba has been swithcing parts around.

Mike getting old a senile I guess. But I think I have a friend who has had one for years. stuck in a corner. In dire shape. But if my memory is ok. (I didn't look very close)It was complete with scope and claw mounts and rings.Which I did look at as was thinking of a Mannlicher project at the time. But now it might be good trading stock.?? will let you know. Whitey, let me know, You have me interested. These have always been one of my favorite rifles. I shot one as a kid inn 6.5. It was dead accurate, I remember that.

$470.00 for that era M/S? wow.....just wow. That's at least 1/2 less than I usually see them for and 1/4 of what I see as the asking price for most.

mwhite49, It's not set in stone, but chances are better than even that the caliber is 8x56 MS, If it is the rifle is a Mod 1908. Mike

Question about the bolt face picture. I know very little about the MS rifles, however I thought MS rifles were claw extract and control feed. The bolt face shown is recessed, also right now on Gunbroker is a 1908 in 8x56 with a closeup of the bolt face and sure looks different then your picture here. Would appreciate any explanation and education

Did some repair to this one a while back... Truly ugly stock architecture.
