Dave,
One of the attractions to go to this service was that it was $5/mo cheaper than my cable bill and for the first 6 mos, it's $15/mo cheaper than my cable. DSL wasn't available at my house due to distance to the thingamabob. So, the increased speed is a bonus to a reduction in charges. No wet blankie. I realize that a lot of servers can't keep up that speed, but the extra neighborhood network capacity will keep the speed consistant... at least for a while until it becomes loaded up I suppose.

Much as I like being in the sticks and envy Miller's ability to poke a barrel out a window for a shot, I've picked my suburban bed and I'm satisfied with most of it, given that I'm neither pauper nor patroon. Maybe someday when I retire....

Fast is good, super-fast can be problematic with viruses, malware, etc.

I know at least two people who have had major computer crashes with lots of data loss, due to viruses, acquired in the 15 MBps region. Explanation has been that conventional antivirus software isn't fast enough to catch the bad stuff (which certainly makes sense to me).

I also know that some fast, commercial networks use a dedicated computer that does nothing but scan the stuff going in and out.
Good news is that some old, obsolete machines can be fast enough at fairly high speeds, since protection is their only task.

I'm interested in any good info that might be available on more details of this. I can provide one web site but I find some of it pretty cryptic.
