Shame about the drilled front ring. Any reason why the scope mount locking bolt sticks out so far on that system?
Whose front sight ramp is that?

Whose front sight ramp is that? I think that if the locking bolt is tightened just using one's fingers, it probably has to be fairly substantial.

Hmmm: Low number Springfield, but probably all right, since it has been D&T not only for scope bases but for a Lyman 48. Strange combination of a Noske mount and a Hensoldt scope. Noske mounts were available with windage adjustment, but most Noske scopes had internal windage adjustment. Probably a King ramp. Looks like a Fajan stock: the Monte Carlo rules out a period stockmaker. I think you did well to pass on it.

In hindsight there were many clues to who the maker of this rifle was. When I was asked about the rifle I missed them all. Something bothered me about the rifle and I kept returning to the auction. I knew who was bidding on it and the light bulb came on just a few hours before the auction ended.
The new owner sent me some pictures and I will post them.

I'm surprised you missed that after our experience with the Rush2Arms auction a few years ago Michael. Dig out the gunsmithing books folks. Roy Weatherby did not invent the monte carlo. The funky inlays, the odd shape of the forend, and the way the grip transitions just behind the magazine cut off, and particularly the rear sight base all are clues. A slightly different cheek piece shape than he used on Mr. Canfield's 03 however. How and I doing Michael?  John Edit, sorry I missed that one. Someone got a great find.

Is the cheekpiece and buttstock the signature of a certain gunsmith ? I have an '03 with the same type butt and cp w/o checkering and forend tip. It was made by H H Nagel San Antonio sometime in the 50's - 60's.

Maybe a dumb question but what type of detachable sling swivel is that? Thought it was a Mauser at first glance, but I havn't seen nearly everything.
