Small ring as in M96 or small ring as in M98 (G33/40 or Mexicans)?
Years ago Kimber was sporterizing M96's and did a nice job as long as you ordered one in 6.5x55. I did and it's a nice inexpensive back up gun that was very accurate out of the box. However, they also offered them in .308 & 7-08, lots of reports of lug set back.
Brownells has Shilen made barrels for 93&96's in 6.5x55, 7x57 and .250 Savage. they used to have 300 Savage but no longer.
I understand the small ring 98's are fine with standard pressures.
