I came across the following double in Afghanistan recently. I am an Advisor to a paramilitary police unit. I was carrying a Mossberg 500 riot gun for a while since I wasnt issued an M4 until just this last week. So, I used what I could get my hands on. The Afghans were intrigued by the fact that I was carrying a "bird gun". They actually wanted me to shoot some doves with it. They would point at my Mossberg and say "Birds, Birds". I had a bit of a hard time explaining to them that "no, it was for people; I have 00 buck loads in it. They didnt want to grasp the 9 pellet concept.
So one of the guys disappears for a bit and comes back and proudly shows me his double; a 12 ga. he told me (through my terp) that he hunts birds with it.
It is not exactly a "Best Quality" double. No makers name but I will assume eastern European origin unless someone can say otherwise. I was able to pull the barrels and check the flats. No British proofs. Needless to say, the bores were rough and it was off face and the barrels wobbled on the action. He had a few shells for it of undetermined origin. I did ascertain that I could buy birdshot loads in Kunduz for about $10.00 US per box, pretty pricey if you ask me.
Anyway, its a double and therefore qualifies to be spoken of on the site.
